Tiree Photos > Other Collections > Balephuil
Balephuil (Gaelic Baile Phuill) lies on the south west corner of the Isle of Tiree exposed to the prevailing southwesterly wind. A magnificent wide expanse of beach runs west from the hamlet. Among the rocks at its western edge lies the ruins of Patrick's Temple. Above rises the headland of Kennavara (Ceann a' Mhara in Gaelic). On top of the hill lie more ruins, earlier dun forts. Skerryvore Lighthouse, probably Scotland's most famous, lies 17km south west of Tiree and can be seen on the horizon from Balephuil on most days, and of course nights. These photos of Scotland are strictly copyright. You must not use these anywhere without first seeking permission. |
