The tiny chapel known as Patrick's Temple ( Gaelic Teampall Pharaig ) is situated at the western end of Balephuil beach and is undoutedly ancient. The two carved crosses are Roman rather than Celtic implying a post-7thC date.

Up until 1898 the walls were about 1.7m high. These were vandalised by two local boys. Legend has it that the boys died soon afterwards as 'reward' for their acts of sacrilege.
