Ruaig lies at the eastern end of Gott Bay on the southeast corner of Tiree. The name Ruaig comes from the Norse clear bay.

Tiree Renewable Energy Ltd, owned by Tiree's Community Development Trust, plans to site a 750kw Vestas wind turbine on Ruaig Sliabh, the ridge to the east of Ruaig. The objective is to generate substancial revenue to be invested back into the community.
