Dun Mor, the broch at Vaul, dates from approximately 60AD. Brochs were fortified structures built in the 1st Centuries BC & AD along the west and north coasts of Scotland and the islands beyond. There were probably places of refuge during attack rather than permanent dwellings. Vaul Broch was originally 8-10 metres high with walls 4 metres thick. The walls were hollow with stairs and galleries between the inner and outer layers.
