Those
fortunate enough to have visited the Scottish island of Tiree will know how
photogenic it can be to anyone holding a camera or tempting for those skilled
enough to use a brush on canvas! The blues and greys of the sea and sky,
the brilliant white of the beaches, the breaking waves and the multitude
of colours of spring and summer machair wildflowers.
Since I too was becoming 'snap happy' with my digital camera and amassing many GBytes of images of this little part of Scotland, I decided to put some online. I wouldn't dare to suggest my efforts are particularly artistic but I enjoy taking and later viewing them.
So this website was been set up to show others what Tiree looks like using
what I think are some of my better images. If you've never visited then you'll
see what you've been missing!

Early images were been taken using an Olympus C-450 Zoom digital camera. The original resolution of the jpeg images is 2288x1712. I have a useful 128mb card in the camera which holds over 100 images at this resolution. My laptop is never far away so photographs are then copied onto it.
In summer 2005 I bought a Nikon D70 Digital SLR with 18-70mm zoom. Full
resolution is 3008x2000. I have a massive 1GB card which holds about 300
images at maximum quality and resolution. Optics seem excellent and the
flexibility & control which an SLR offers helps greatly.

I have 4000+ Tiree photographs now, so the 400 featured here are what I consider to be the best. I have reduced all images to 640x480 & 240x180 for this website.
I also link to other sites which show Tiree images whether it's fine art prints, aerial photographs of Scotland, serious photography or just holiday snaps. If you have Tiree photographs or images online or if you know of some which could be of interest to anyone exploring Tiree through cyberspace, then let me know and I'll link to those too.
